Very biased opinion about women's health. Completely disregards alternative approaches, such as bio-identical hormone replacement therapies. During a seminar, he was not even able to explain how the human liver does not have the appropriate enzymes to clear the synthetic forms of the hormones, therefore building in the body over years and years until finally a system or an organ (such as gallbladder, cardiovascular health, etc) fails. A much better resource for explaining hormones and how to replace them in a form that our body can not only use for the beneficial effects, but also degrade them and excrete them (therefore not accumulating in our tissues slowly creating a diseased state like the synthetic forms) is "Dr. John Lee's Hormone Balance Made Simple" by John R. Lee, MD. This book is very well written in a format that is easy for any lay person to understand. For more detailed explanations (in a more medical/scientific format), he has written several other books including "What Your Doctor May NOT Tell You About Menopause: The Breakthrough Book on Natural Hormone Balance" and "What Your Doctor May NOT Tell You About Premenopause: Balance Your Hormones and Your Life from 30 to 50." Author John R. Lee was also a medical doctor for three decades, so he had ample first hand experience with patients and their side effects resulting from synthetic hormones. PLEASE, read any one of his books if you are needing any information on hormones and/or hormone replacement therapies.

Product Description:
"The book idea came from over 45 years of research, and teaching students training
for careers in the health sciences, including medicine, dentistry, nursing, physical
therapy and exercise science. This experience and feedback at dinner parties led
him to decide that people are remarkably uninformed, yet are intensely curious,
about how their bodies work, especially about what hormones do.

The hormone topics are introduced systematically and discussed in conversational
style. The ten chapters are loaded with topical information, explanations of
hormone controversies, and stories of epochal breakthroughs in bio-medicine
(including hormone-related work by 30 Nobel Prize winners). The book provides
the basics for understanding news stories about hormones that appear almost
daily, and information that better prepares one for trips to the doctor. The book
also guides readers through such controversies as hormone replacement therapy in
menopause, steroid abuse and its consequences, the "bio-identical" hormones fl ap,
and the nature-nurture arguments about the causes of homosexuality."
