Female Fertility and the Body Fat Connection (Women in Culture and Society Series) Review

This book is meant for people who are 1) thin or underweight and/or exercise too much 2) a medical student or one interested in the mechanics of fertility or 3) Overweight/Obese women looking to understand WHY being overweight/obese is impairing their fertility (BMI > than 27).For the average women who does not fall into these three categories and is looking for insight into her infertility, I would advise this book is not the right one for you.If you are still curious, check it out from your local library (as I did), and you won't be disappointed you spent any money.

Natural Family Planning: The Complete Approach Review

Natural Family Planning: The Complete Approach

This is a very complete treatment of natural family planning (nfp), including breastfeeding. It is presented in a nice, simple manner, yet refined and tailored for any couple's unique situation.
The Kippleys have especially differentiated which breastfeeding behaviors will usually result in an extended time without cycles, and which will not.For example, pumping or delaying nursings are likely to stimulate a return of cycles. This crucial scientific information (well footnoted) can enrich medical and nursing schools' curriculum and client education.
All these accurate distinctions, in both nfp and breastfeeding, are critical, as well, for those who wish to avoid contraception and contracepting behaviors in planning families - like us!

Honoring Our Cycles: A Natural Family Planning Workbook Review

Honoring Our Cycles: A Natural Family Planning Workbook

I have read "Natural Family Planning" and "Taking Charge of your Fertility" and have practiced NFP/FAM (fertility awareness method) for a while now.I bought this mostly so I wouldn't have to print and bind my own charts anymore because this one comes ready to use and is small and thin like a workbook.I am very pleased with the charts- they are the easiest to use of all the ones I've tried.
What surprised me was the incredible job the author has done of teaching the method in a very concise and easy to understand manner.I can't emphasize enough how much easier it is to learn how to chart to prevent or to plan a pregnancy with this book than with other books.
Most exciting to me was the way the author teaches how to use NFP while breast feeding. The other books make it so complicated and when I did finally think I de-coded what they meant, it didn't work for me because my mucus was too eratic while nursing to use their methods. But, Singer does an excellent job in this book explaining how to use NFP while nursing a baby and she does it in under one page! She makes perfect sense and her method is much, much easier to use and is actually doable.
Awesome, awesome book!

Taking Charge of Your Fertility, 10th Anniversary Edition: The Definitive Guide to Natural Birth Control, Pregnancy Achievement, and Reproductive Health

I honestly thought that just being a woman ~ I knew all I needed to know to get pregnant.I am 35 now and ready to have a baby, so I stopped taking the pill and waited 2 cycles and thought all I had to do was plan our night of fun close to Ovulation "Day 14".Was I ever wrong!!
After trying unsuccessfully on my own for 5 months, I started to question my fertility.I purchased ovulation test strips and they wouldn't show a peak ovulation.I found others online who were trying to conceive and recommended this book.Once I received the book, I couldn't put it down!I was amazed at what little information I actually knew about my cycle ~ my own body and what it had been telling me all along.I just didn't understand it.
I learned not everyone ovulates on "Day 14", for me it is actually "Day 23".I assumed I wasn't ovulating and got frustrated at day 20-21 and would stop testing.I now know to look for signals to show when I'm ovulating and now test in the correct window.
By reading this book I now have a clear understanding of my cycle. At my age, I want to have a baby sooner than later, so I plan on taking a more aggressive approach to my fertilization.I talked with my doctor after 6 months, rather than 1 year. With the help of this book and charting, I was able to explain my cycle and show my doctor all my charts.I was able to provide all the information needed to show I have a short luteal phase.By providing this information to the doctor, we will be able to treat the ovulation problem that much quicker. My doctor commented that I was extremely organized and it really helped things along.
This book is very easy to read and understand. You will be able to clearly read your own body signals during your cycle, and have a better understanding of your fertilization ~ whether you want to become pregnant - or not.
I will share this book with other women and would recommend it for every woman!
