After four doctors attempted to convince me to have a hysterectomy for endometriosis, I traveled to Atlanta to consult with Dr. Lyons. He was the first doctor to take my condition seriously, and through skilled surgery and medical assistance, has changed my life.

Product Description:
Endometriosis can disrupt women's lives. It is responsible for chronic, sometimes crippling pain, hundreds of thousands of missed work hours, and in its most extreme cases, infertility.
There is hope! Thomas L. Lyons, M.D., whose philosophy is to "treat the patient, not the disease," has developed leading edge surgical techniques to address endometriosis.
Dr. Lyons demystifies this puzzling disease, covering issues from fertility to dietary concerns, alternative treatments to surgical options but the main focus is on the key issue of pain management for this potentially debilitating disease.

Overcoming Male Infertility Review

This was a great book for us.Very easy to read - it had the technical stuff but explained in a very down to earth way.It covered many subjects from IVF, IVF ICSI, donor sperm. All in non-judgmental ways, I gives you the facts of all and lets you decide without steering you one way or the other. It also discusses some of the causes.I thought the books was super and should be required reading for all couples that are in this situation.

The Fertility Handbook: A Guide to Getting Pregnant Review

The Fertility Handbook: A Guide to Getting Pregnant
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
There are some fantastic books on fertility on the market. This one isn't even remotely close. The Fertility Handbook tries to do it all in 135 pages and sadly, ends up doing very little. This little book attempts to cover everything from emotional concerns to all of the causes and treatments of infertility and causes of & living after miscarriage.
What happens is this:important topics get watered down, and so simplified that they aren't practically useful.Want to learn how to chart your temperature?Hope you're a quick learner, because you get one paragraph to figure it out.Wandering how you should take care of your body while trying to conceive?Don't miss it - it's all in one paragraph.
And yet it's puzzling that there are two pages on selective reduction of multiples, something that very few women will have to face. And if they do, I hope women look at more thorough books than this one to make their decision...

This book is meant for people who are 1) thin or underweight and/or exercise too much 2) a medical student or one interested in the mechanics of fertility or 3) Overweight/Obese women looking to understand WHY being overweight/obese is impairing their fertility (BMI > than 27).For the average women who does not fall into these three categories and is looking for insight into her infertility, I would advise this book is not the right one for you.If you are still curious, check it out from your local library (as I did), and you won't be disappointed you spent any money.

Natural Birth Control Made Simple Review

Natural Birth Control Made Simple
Average Reviews:

If you're looking for a good place to start - this book is not it.While I think the author gives good descriptions of your fertility signs, I don't think this book is a good idea for people new to NFP.

My biggest beef with this book is how the 'rules' are presented.

What you need to know is that there are basically two forms of NFP:STM and OM.STM (Sympto-Thermal Method) uses your basal body temperature, cervical mucus observations and changes in your cervix to determine when you are fertile and when you are not.OM (Ovulation Method or Billings Ovulation Method) relies on cervical mucus observations to determine your fertility.

While both can be effective - they use different rules. The author presents both STM and OM - but she mixes up the rules!

The result is a mish-mash of fertility rules that I think will lead to lower effectiveness rates. If you want to use NFP effectively, you need to pick one method and follow the rules for that method.

An example of this mix up involves the rules before ovulation. The author lists one of the STM rules (page 114) as abstaining during menstrual bleeding. This is not an STM rule - this is an OM Rule. There is no reason, if you are using STM that you need to abstain during the menstrual bleeding - but you MUST abstain during any bleeding if you are using the Ovulation Method.

With STM, you use your Basal Body Temperature rise to know when you are experiencing true menstrual bleeding - and not breakthrough bleeding, which is very fertile. With the Ovulation Method - there is no way of knowing (since you don't take your temperature) if bleeding is true menstruation - so with the OM, you must abstain during any bleeding.

Then on page 117, the author discusses the Cervical Mucus Method (aka Billings Ovulation Method) and suggests that you should abstain during your menstrual bleeding - or - you can have intercourse during the first five days of your cycle.Well - which is it?With the OM - you must abstain during any bleeding. The first five days option is a rule from STM.

If you're new to Natural Family Planning or Fertility Awareness - these may not seem like big differences. But take it from someone who has studied both methods - it is important to follow the rules. You can't take a little from this method and a little from that method and hope to get an effective method of postponing pregnancy.

The author will say that there are some rules that are more conservative - and others that are less - but doesn't always clearly identify which is which. For a beginner to NFP - this is trouble.

If you're looking to learn more about Natural Family Planning, pick a better book.Try "The Art of Natural Family Planning"- while it's a bigger book - you'll get clear instruction on the rules, along with the effectiveness of each rule so you can make informed decisions.

I gave this book two stars (instead of one) because I think the author does do a good job describing fertility signs and how to observe them.

That aside - choose another book to start learning about NFP - this one mixes up too many rules to be a good beginner book.If you are serious about using NFP effectively - don't choose this book.

The Tao of Fertility: A Healing Chinese Medicine Program to Prepare Body, Mind, and Spirit for New Life Review

The Tao of Fertility: A Healing Chinese Medicine Program to Prepare Body, Mind, and Spirit for New Life
Average Reviews:

After I was diagnosed with cancer at the age of twenty-three, my oncologist suggested that I go to see a fertility specialist. This being that my ovaries were affected by the chemotherapy and my chances of conceiving would be drastically lowered. The fertility specialist immediately recommended many types of drugs, needles and having IVF and then an FET (Frozen Embryo Transfer).I was devastated to say the least.Few doctor's have mastered how to handle this delicate problem that plagues women today. Dr. Dao is one of them.He doesn't shy away, as if it only exists in the minds of the women facing it, instead he leads the way to hope and promise of fertility.

This book is a blessing! It speaks volumes with both knowledge and information that is easily readable and understood.Dr. Dao, Being a Taoist with their full understanding of balance, mind, body, and nature, many of these concepts were new to me and I was pleased to find that all the information given seemed logical, easy to follow and most importantly, achievable! An important aspect to women searching through the seemingly endless amount of information on this subject.

From the diets to detoxify to the daily meditation to relax the mind, there is something for everyone struggling with fertility in this book.Included are recipes, suggestions for herbal supplements, questionnaires, and charts that are easy to follow and bring hope to those trying to increase the likelihood of getting pregnant! This is an astonishing turn around in fertility books.I've read many books on this very subject and most jump into the available drug treatments, IVF, and surgical solutions used to help women with this problem.

This book includes more than the usual doctor's message of eating a sensible diet, not smoking, exercising and staying positive.Dr. Dao discusses Traditional Chinese Medicine with an equal scale toward Western Medicine. He never says one is better than the other and helps you to understand the way of the Tao and the Traditional Chinese Methods. This is the first book of this type where I've actually had the doctor prepare your body for pregnancy in both body and mind.,

The second half of this book was beautifully done with touching vignettes of previously infertile women who now have conceived and have happy, healthy children.I find these stories not only touching, but helpful in coping with my own infertility.Hope is the first word that comes to mind.

A massive amount of information is placed in this single volume book. It's not just a self-help guide to women and couples, but an outstanding source of information that I will turn to time and time again.
