This and all other aspects of fertility are explained in much clearer andgreater detail in the wonderful book Taking Charge of Your Fertility byToni Weschler.She provides LOTS of charts and examples and photos to helpyou track your cycle compared to just three sample charts in Dr. Shettlesbook.She also summarizes the techniques for sex selection in a separatechapter, and it makes a lot more sense after her detailed explanation ofoverall cycle tracking.If you're really focused on sex selection, you maygain some extra from Dr. Shettles book (like who should and shouldn't drinkcoffee), but it should be read in combination with Toni Weschler's book,which will answer any practical questions you have left.

Whether you want to try to conceive a boy or a girl by natural methods, or you'd like to attempt the more successful high-tech methods like Microsort or PGD, this book walks you through all the steps and details involved. I learned a lot about sex selection, and all the possibilities. If you're interested in this topic, I highly recommend the book. The author describes gender diets and at-home methods that couples have tried to conceive a baby, and she also tells about the new technology and what it's like to go through it. She shares her personal experiences, and the stories of other women around the world, in trying to reach a "gender dream." And those stories are really interesting. Most women don't share their gender selection attempts in "real life," but this book lets you know that these attempts are becoming more and more common! A real eye-opener about family planning.

(More customer reviews)This book is great because it covers the entire spectrum of sex selection methods available, from the low tech to the high tech.But it really focuses on the most effective scientific methods, unlike "How to Choose the Sex of Your Baby," which just focuses on the pseudo-scientific Shettles Method.

The Shettles Method is just a timing method, and it only works slightly better than half the time.And when you really want a child of one sex or the other, why take that chance? Especially when there are methods like PGD, which are more expensive but work almost 100% of the time.

(More customer reviews)What a well-written book!Reading Toni Weschler's "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" before I read this book helped in understanding the signs of fertility andproper charting of these signs.
In response to the reviewer who was upset that Dr Shettles advises going off the pill 6 months prior...her doctor is right, a woman may ovulate as early as one month after discontinuing the pill; this would allow her to successfully acheive pregnancy as early as her first cycle after coming off the pill.What it is VITAL for the reader to understand (by reading the preceding chapters and not just skipping ahead), is that Dr Shettles recommends waiting at least six months SO THAT A WOMAN'S CYCLE RETURNS TO A NORMAL, SOMEWHAT PREDICTABLE STATE.Only then, can she and her partner hope to practice natural sex pre-selection.Most of our physicians are only concerned with helping us to acheive pregnancy, be it of a boy or girl; any practicer of Dr Shettles' method should be thrilled to have either one...but if you'd like to swing the odds one way or the other READ THIS BOOK!!!
